About the Project

Studies in Eco-psychology have suggested that having lots of diverse plant life around a college campus has positive affects on the mental well-being of the students attending, and the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia has embraced this idea. There is lots of flora around campus, but a quick walk around with a plant identifying book or app in hand reveals that the majority of what has been planted is not native to this area. The purpose of this project is to educate on both the benefits of planting native flora on campus, and the disadvantages of opting to plant non-native flora from other regions, states, or even countries.
